Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper

“God created me – and you- to live with a single, all-embracing, all-transforming passion-namely, a passion to glorify God by enjoying and displaying his supreme excellence in all spheres of life....Life is wasted when we do not live the glory of God.”

I picked up this book when I was going through a rough patch in my life. I did not know where God was taking me. I wasn’t sure where I was going personally, spiritually, academically, or professionally. I felt like a wreck. I felt like I was wasting everything. John Piper is great at reminding us that life is about glorifying God. Everything else is secondary.

What job you will have? Secondary. Who will be your spouse? Secondary. Where will you live? Secondary.

God is in control and He has promised to take care of you. What He ultimately wants is us. He wants to be loved by us, adore by us, and have a relationship with us. It does seem a little crazy to put other matters like family and career on the back burner, but if we truly believe in the promises of God then we will be fine.

Life is risky. It won’t always be fun, but it won’t always hurt. Don’t worry about tomorrow because you have no control over that. Be present where you are right now! There is a reason why you are there.
